Hello everyone from Musashi-Kosugi Toastmasters Club! 😊
We held our 531st club meeting with two guests joining us, making it another lively and enjoyable meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, we observed a one-minute moment of silence for those affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto.
We were also pleased to announce that Musashi-Kosugi Toastmasters Club had been recognized as a Select Distinguished Club for 2025–2026. It was a wonderful achievement for everyone to celebrate together.
🔢 Today’s Theme — “Number”
The theme of the meeting was “Number.”
The meeting was held on August 8 in Reiwa 8 — in other words, 8・8・8 — making “Number” a perfect theme for the day.
We also learned that August 8 is celebrated as Father’s Day in Taiwan because the pronunciation of “8/8” sounds similar to “baba,” meaning “Dad.” Another interesting connection is that when the number 8 is turned sideways, it becomes the infinity symbol ∞.
Before the meeting, members were invited to think about a number that had a special meaning in their lives. Throughout the meeting, many interesting stories connected with numbers were shared.
📖 Word of the Day — “uplifting”
It means something that makes you feel happier, more positive, or encouraged — a perfect word for the meeting.
🎤 Table Topics
The Table Topics session also focused on numbers.
Each question inspired a different story or idea related to numbers.
Speaker 1
“What number is special to you?” → 1
Speaker 2
“What was the most memorable age in your life?” → 12
Speaker 3
“What number would you like to reach?” → Infinity
Speaker 4
“If there were 25 hours in a day, how would you use the extra hour?” → Studying
🎙️ Prepared Speeches
Speaker 1 — “Freedom to Fail”
Speaker 1 spoke about the importance of continuing to take on challenges without being afraid of failure.
Referring to his son’s experience, he shared the message, “Failure is the price of progress,” and encouraged us to keep challenging ourselves.
Speaker 2 — “8”
Speaker 2 shared humorous stories about his son, whose name is connected to his favorite number, eight.
The stories brought plenty of laughter to the audience, while also conveying a warm message: parents should trust their children and let them find their own way.
Speaker 3 — “Me and Julius Caesar: A Strange Connection”
Speaker 3 introduced some of the strengths commonly associated with great historical figures and shared an unexpected story about Julius Caesar before revealing a “strange connection” to his own experience.
The speech was full of humor and kept the audience entertained throughout.
Speaker 4 — Better Speaker Series
Speaker 4 delivered a 15-minute speech about how to choose topics for speeches.
In addition to introducing ideas from the manual, the speaker encouraged us to make good use of comment sheets.
Comments received after a previous speech later inspired new speech topics, including overcoming personal weaknesses and an experience of becoming ill while living overseas.
💬 Evaluation Session
During the Table Topics evaluation, thoughtful feedback was given on each speaker’s personal stories, ideas, and creative responses to the questions.
The prepared speeches also received specific and constructive feedback, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement.
The session concluded with a general evaluation of the meeting as a whole.

From one simple theme — “Number” — the meeting expanded into stories about humor, family, challenges, history, and many other topics.
It was another lively and enjoyable meeting in which each speaker’s individuality shone through.

第531回 武蔵小杉トーストマスターズクラブ例会

皆さん、こんにちは！武蔵小杉トーストマスターズクラブです😊
第531回例会を開催しました。
今回は、2名のゲストをお迎えし、にぎやかな例会となりました。
例会の冒頭では、熊本で被災された方々を思い、1分間の黙祷を捧げました。
また、武蔵小杉トーストマスターズクラブが2025–2026年度の「Select Distinguished Club」に認定されたことが発表され、クラブの大きな成果を皆で喜びました。
🔢 今日のテーマ ― 「数字」
この日は令和8年8月8日、つまり8・8・8。まさに「8」がそろう日にぴったりのテーマです。
さらに、台湾では8月8日が「父の日」で、「8/8」の発音が「baba（パパ）」に似ていることや、数字の8を横にすると無限を表す記号 ∞ になることも紹介されました。
参加者には事前に「自分にとって特別な意味を持つ数字」について考えてくるよう呼びかけられており、例会を通してさまざまな「数字」のエピソードが登場しました。
📖 今日の言葉 ― “uplifting”。
「元気づける」「前向きな気持ちにさせる」という意味で、例会にぴったりの言葉でした。
🎤 テーブルトピックス
テーブルトピックスのテーマも「数字」。
それぞれの質問から、数字にまつわる思いやエピソードが語られました。

「一番思い出深い年齢は？」→ 12歳

「到達したい数字は？」→ Infinity（無限）

「もし1日が25時間だったら、増えた1時間を何に使う？」→ 勉強
🎙️ 準備スピーチ
Speaker 1 ― “Freedom to Fail”
失敗を恐れず、挑戦し続けることの大切さについてのスピーチでした。
息子さんの経験にも触れながら、「失敗は進歩の代償である」というメッセージを通して、失敗を恐れず挑戦し続けることの大切さを語りました。
Speaker 2 ― “8”
大好きな数字「8」と、そこから名付けた息子さんについて、ユーモアあふれるエピソードを紹介。
会場が笑いに包まれる中、最後には、親は子どもを信じ、その子自身の道を歩ませることが大切という温かなメッセージが伝わってきました。
Speaker 3 ― “Me and Julius Caesar: A Strange Connection”
偉大な人物に共通する強みや、ユリウス・カエサルにまつわる意外なエピソードを紹介しながら、ご自身との「不思議なつながり」へと展開。
ユーモアたっぷりのスピーチで、会場を大いに沸かせてくれました。
Speaker 4 ― Better Speaker Series
「スピーチのトピックをどのように選ぶか」をテーマにした15分間のスピーチでした。
マニュアルで紹介されている方法に加え、コメントシートを積極的に活用することを提案。
以前のスピーチでもらったコメントが、その後の「弱点をどう克服したか」や「海外で病気になった経験」など、新しいスピーチのテーマにつながったことが紹介されました。
💬 論評
テーブルトピックス論評では、各スピーカーの個人的なエピソードやアイデア、質問に対する工夫を凝らした回答について、丁寧なフィードバックがありました。
準備スピーチについても、それぞれのスピーチの良かった点と改善点について、具体的で建設的な論評が行われました。
最後に総合論評が行われ、例会全体を振り返って論評セッションを締めくくりました。
🏆 各賞
今回も、ベストスピーカー賞（2名）、ベストテーブルトピックス賞、ベスト論評賞が選出されました。
受賞された皆さん、おめでとうございます！👏
「Number」という一つのテーマから、ユーモア、家族、挑戦、歴史など、さまざまな話題へと広がりました。
一人ひとりの個性が光る、楽しく活気のある例会となりました。
